Stiftl pours Augustiner straight from wooden barrels, giving it that slightly yeasty, unfiltered taste you won't find in bottles. It's maltier and rounder than the brewery's regular Edelstoff, with a creamy head that actually stays put. At 5.2% alcohol, it goes down dangerously smooth - many first-timers underestimate how quickly three Maß will hit them.

The 1600 capacity splits roughly 60-40 between ground floor and upstairs, with maybe 200 beer garden seats outside when weather permits. Ground floor tables near the band fill first around noon, while upstairs stays quieter until evening. Late arrivals should try the bar area on the second floor - standing room only, but you'll get served faster.

Augustiner runs €14.50 per Maß, which sits middle-range for small tents. Their Schweinebraten costs €16.80, Hendl goes for €14.20. Most locals round up to the nearest euro, though Americans tend to overtip at 15-20%. They accept cash only, so budget €60-80 per person for a proper afternoon including food.

Reservations open in February and fill within hours for weekend slots. You'll need minimum 8 people and €200 deposit per table. Without reservations, arrive by 11 AM on weekdays or forget about sitting together. The bar upstairs accepts walk-ins more readily, especially after 6 PM when some reserved tables empty out.

Mornings start quiet with coffee and Weisswurst, but by 2 PM the brass band kicks in and volume escalates steadily. Thursday and Friday evenings get genuinely rowdy - expect crowd surfing and spontaneous dancing on tables. The upstairs balcony maintains conversation-level noise until around 8 PM, when even that space surrenders to the party below.
