U-Bahn - The Fastest Way
The U-Bahn (subway) is the most convenient way to reach Oktoberfest. Four stations are within walking distance of Theresienwiese. Our tip: the closest station is not always the best choice.
Theresienwiese
U4 / U53 minutes
The closest station, but also the most crowded. Expect long waits at the exit on weekends. Use the exit towards Bavariaring for a less congested route.
Goetheplatz
U3 / U68 minutes
Often the better choice. Less crowded than Theresienwiese and you arrive at the southern entrance - good for the Oide Wiesn.
Schwanthaler Höhe
U4 / U510 minutes
Insider tip. Very few visitors use this station. You arrive at the western entrance with the shortest queues.
Poccistraße
U3 / U612 minutes
Rarely crowded. Especially convenient if you are coming from the south of München.
Frequently Asked Questions About Getting There
What is the best way to get to Oktoberfest?
The best way is by U-Bahn to Theresienwiese (U4/U5) or Goetheplatz (U3/U6). Alternatively, take the S-Bahn to Hackerbrücke. We recommend Goetheplatz or Schwanthaler Höhe as less crowded alternatives. How do I get from München Airport to Oktoberfest?
Take the S-Bahn S1 or S8 from the airport to the main station (about 40 minutes). There, transfer to the U4 or U5 towards Theresienwiese. Alternatively, the Lufthansa Express Bus runs to the main station (about 45 minutes). A taxi costs around €70 to €90.Can I drive to Oktoberfest?

Yes. During Oktoberfest, U-Bahn and S-Bahn trains run all night on weekends. On weekdays, there are extended service hours until around 2 to 3 AM. Night buses supplement the network. How much does a ticket to Oktoberfest cost?
A single-trip ticket for the inner zone (M) costs about €3.70. The day pass (Tageskarte M) for unlimited rides costs about €8.80 - almost always worth it. Groups of 2 or more save with the group day pass (about €17.80 for up to 5 people). Is there a shuttle to Oktoberfest?
